It is more critical than ever to provide young people with a platform to openly explore and articulate their vision of ‘strong and principled American leadership’. Unfortunately, for many years, no such outlets specifically dedicated to providing a platform for pre-professional students and early career professionals existed at the national level.

To address that gap, AHS launched The Hamiltonian in 2021 and Security and Strategy in 2022. As concrete extensions of our mission to identify, educate, launch, and advance young men and women into foreign policy and national security careers imbued with strong Hamiltonian principles, these journals serve as an important venue for vigorous public discussion of the pressing issues we face today.

The Hamiltonian

The Hamiltonian is our annual student journal curated to spotlight exemplary written work, framed within the Hamiltonian paradigm, on topics in U.S. foreign policy, national security, and economic statecraft from members of our student network. This journal serves as the visible platform to bear the torch and set the example for the next generation of American leadership, providing a unique opportunity for our members to distinguish themselves within the Society and beyond.

Security and Strategy

Security and Strategy serves to kindle discussion of U.S. strategic competition by providing a platform for a new generation of policymakers to express and expound on concepts and opportunities they think are critical to helping the United States win the competitions with its adversaries. Our Security and Strategy Seminar Fellows and contributors to these volumes, spend a year studying an American adversary, forging relationships with eminent scholars and practitioners, sharpening analytical frameworks through written and oral arguments, and constructing a cohort with their peers.

1776: The Beginnings of American Exceptionalism Abroad

As America celebrates its semiquincentennial on July 4, 2026, we have a chance to reflect on the ideas that first defined America’s role in the world. 1776: The Beginnings of American Exceptionalism Abroad brings together a rising cohort of thinkers in Washington’s policy community to revisit the foreign policy laid by Hamilton, Washington, Jefferson, and their contemporaries. From Hamilton’s strategic vision to Washington’s Farewell address and the roots of American exceptionalism, these essays offer lessons for a new generation of leaders. This work will serve as both a touchstone and a resource for a new generation of foreign policy leaders who will shape America’s role in the world for decades to come.
