Our 2019 AHS Summer Fellows

Caroline Dunlap, Marquette University '21

Caroline is a rising junior studying Political Science and Philosophy at Marquette University where she is the incoming President of her AHS chapter. This summer, Caroline will be interning at the U.S. Department of State in the Secretary of State’s office, working closely with the public and members of the Bureau of Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs. Following this summer, she will be studying abroad in France.

L. Isabel Ivanescu, Duke University '20

Isabel is a rising senior at Duke where she majors in Political Science with a concentration in Security, Peace, and Conflict studies. On campus, she is involved with the Duke Program in American Grand Strategy and runs the Duke undergraduate Moot Court team. This summer, Isabel will be interning at the Institute for the Study of War, doing open-source intelligence and policy analysis. She will also be participating in summer courses through the Hertog Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute

Timothy Murcek, Liberty University '19

Tim is a Politics & Public Policy major with minors in International Relations and Communications. This summer, Tim will be interning with Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), where he will split his time between the Congressman’s personal office assisting with legislative research and constituent services and the House Minority Leader’s office assisting with House leadership initiatives, vote counts, and legislative agenda crafting.

Benjamin Noon, Vanderbilt University '20

Ben is a Political Science major with a minor in Asian studies. He is also the founder and president of Vanderbilt’s Alexander Hamilton Society chapter. This summer, he will intern at The RWR Advisory Group. While there, Ben will research the economic, strategic, and geopolitical implications of China’s international investment through the Belt and Road Initiative.

James Quinn, Columbia University '20

Jimmy is a Political Science major in the Dual Bachelors Program with Sciences Po in Paris, France. This summer, he will intern at the Department of Justice in the Office of Public Affairs, where he will assist the speechwriting team in drafting and editing remarks for the Attorney General, provide research assistance, and contribute to other communications projects.

Congratulations to our 2019 Summer Fellowship Cohort!

As part of our effort to help launch our top student leaders into careers that further our mission, we are proud to announce and congratulate the 2019 cohort of AHS Summer Fellows. Emerging from a competitive applicant pool, these five student leaders have each secured unpaid internships in Washington, DC on Capitol Hill, at think-tanks, and in the Executive Branch. By helping these students afford an otherwise very expensive summer in Washington and having them participate in AHS summer programming, the Summer Fellows will be able to take advantage of everything Washington, their internship, and AHS have to offer. We look forward to welcoming them to DC and hope this fellowship encourages all AHS students to pursue their professional passions in foreign policy, national security, and economic statecraft.

The Summer Fellows Program provides grants to AHS students pursuing unpaid internships in Washington, D.C. in foreign policy, national security, and economic statecraft. The competitive fellowship underwrites and encourages students to pursue their professional interests in line with our mission and goals. A status signal for potential employers, it helps students both procure and accept internships, thus ultimately increasing their chances of securing long-term employment after graduation. Summer Fellows also participate in the D.C. Summer Series.
