Summer 2020 Internship Applications Are Open

We are seeking full time interns to work at our national office in Washington, D.C during the summer of 2020. AHS interns will assist in planning and executing the AHS Summer Series and other national events in addition to preparing for chapter programming in the Fall 2020 semester. The AHS Summer Series includes our Annual Student Leadership Conference, the Hamilton National Institute, the AHS Fellows Program, and numerous other events such as our book talks and dinners with scholars in the foreign policy field. Interns will have the opportunity to attend policy discussions at leading think-tanks in Washington, interact with our D.C. partners, and work closely with the AHS staff while gaining practical skills, policy exposure, and networking opportunities.

The internships are unpaid, but commuting stipends are available.

Academic Programs Internship:

Academic Programs interns will work closely with the Academic Programs team, providing support as they strategize for future campus programming and career advancement initiatives. In addition, they will provide assistance for the Hamilton Dispatch and social media outreach, among other projects. In addition, they will aid in the planning leading up to the annual Summer Series.

Communications Internship:

Communications interns will work closely with the Marketing & Development Associate to help manage the AHS national database and alumni network. They will provide support to AHS’s website and provide first draft assistance on all-network newsletters, among other projects. In addition, they will aid in the planning leading up to the annual Summer Series.

Requirements:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student

  • Understanding of AHS’s mission and principles

  • Strong interest in foreign affairs and national security

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Be detail oriented

  • Have a professional demeanor and positive attitude

  • Reliable and able to commit at least 25 hours per week

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, InDesign, Canva, and SquareSpace are a plus
